ODI Tour Itinerary

Extend your tour to the Pilanesberg National Park with three-nights, full board, at one of the most renowned game lodges in central South Africa.

Sunday 22nd January

Upon arrival at O.R. Tambo International Airport travel with your Tour Manager and the rest of the group to the Ivory Tree Game Lodge via organised transfer. The Lodge lies in the heart of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve and is set within the crater of an ancient volcano – one of the largest of a very rare formation. This ancient configuration comes hand-in-hand with various indicators of the presence of early man in the region. This is showcased through the numerous Stone and Iron Age sites that are scattered throughout the Park.

Monday 23rd January

Seek out the Big Five as you embark on the twice daily game drives, as well as full-board meals in this luxurious Lodge.

Tuesday 24th January

Head out for two more game drives, and/or relax around the pool, enjoy the spa or be adventurous with some quad-biking or archery.

Sunday 25th January

After breakfast, transfer back to Sandton to join the group for the start of the ODI Tour.

Tuesday 24th – Wednesday 25th January

Depart UK – Arrive Johannesburg

Board your international flight from London Heathrow or your chosen UK airport.

Arrive O.R. Tambo International Airport, where you will be met by your Not Out Travel Tour Manager and transferred to your hotel in the suburb of Sandton.

Enjoy an afternoon to explore Sandton.

Thursday 26th January

Sandton to Bloemfontein

Following breakfast at your hotel, transfer with the group to your accommodation in Bloemfontein.

Enjoy the scenic drive through central South Africa into the country’s judicial capital, known as the ‘city of roses’.

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and take an evening to relax.

Friday 27th January

1st ODI

Following breakfast and a morning at leisure, transfer to the 1st ODI between South Africa and England at the Mangaung Oval. After the day’s play, transfer back to your hotel.

Saturday 28th January

Bloemfontein

Enjoy a free day in Bloemfontein.

Depart from the hotel at 8am and head to Naval Hill. With its panoramic view of the city, you will discover the origins and history of Bloemfontein and its surrounding areas. There will also be an opportunity to take a drive through the unique Franklin Game Reserve, where various antelope and giraffe roam. We will the head out to Sannaspos Battlefield (31st March 1900) where General Christiaan de Wet inflicted his first guerrilla tactic victory over the British forces. We the move onto the Woman’s War Memorial and Museum. A unique monument erected in the memory of the 26 370 women and children who died in concentration camps
during the Anglo Boer War (1899-1902).

The tour will then pause for lunch at Lewers Resturant in Westdene (own account).

Proceed then to the Oliewenhuis Art Gallery, before finishing our tour in the Free State Botanical Gardens, an area of extreme beauty with indigenous trees and plants, the only botanical garden in the Free State province. This 70-hectare garden spans a valley between dolerite hills and is home to more than 144 species of birds and 32 mammal species.

We will arrive back to the hotels by 5pm.

Sunday 29th January

2nd ODI

Following breakfast transfer to the 2nd ODI between South Africa and England at the Mangaung Oval. After the day’s play, transfer back to your hotel.

Monday 30th January

Bloemfontein to Kimberley

Following breakfast at your hotel, we will transfer to Kimberley.

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and an afternoon in Kimberley.

Upon arrival in Kimberley, you will be transfered to the Mattanu Private Game Reserve in a seperate shuttle. The reserve is around 50km from Kimberley and match transfers will take around one-hour.

Enjoy three nights in the game reserve on a full-board basis, including two-game drives per day. This is the only reserve in South Africa where you can view breeding programmes of Roan, Sable, Buffalo, Royal Oryx, Golden Oryx, Golden Gnu, Black Impala, Tsessebe and Livingstone Eland together on the same property.

Tuesday 31st January

Kimberley

Enjoy a day of sightseeing, sampling the local cusine and sun-seeking in Kimberley.

Depart from the hotel at 8:30am and proceed to the biggest man made hole in the world, the Kimberley Big Hole. We will have the opportunity to see how diamonds put this town on the map and how it shaped the history of South Africa. There is a great open air museum which we can explore and you will get an idea on what it was like in Kimberley heydays! We then move onto the McGregor Museum. This museum gives the visitor a great opportunity to see what it was like during the siege of Kimberley as well as displays on anthropology, geology and history. On the same grounds we will also visit the Duggan-Cronin Gallery where a fine display of early photos taken by Martin Duggan-Cronin are exhibited.

After lunch we then depart to the Magersfontein Battlefield situated about 25kms south west of the town. It was here on the 11th December 1899 that the British forces under General Methuen suffered a major setback from the Boer forces entrenched at the base of the Magersfontein hills.

We will arrive back to the hotels by 4pm.

Wednesday 1st February

3rd ODI

Following breakfast and a morning at leisure, transfer to the 3rd ODI between South Africa and England at The Kimberley Oval. After the day’s play, transfer back to your hotel.

Thursday 2nd February

Kimberley to Sandton

Check out of your hotel this morning and transfer to Sandton, or fly onto Cape Town for the weekend.

After breakfast on the 2nd February, transfer to Kimberley Airport for your domestic flight to Cape Town.

Upon arrival in Cape Town, transfer to your hotel for check in. This will be your base from which to enjoy this incredible city for three-nights.

Optional excursions will be available to pre-book, as well as the possibility of taking in a match at Newlands in the new South African Franchise T20 tournament. (Information to follow once fixtures are confirmed)

On Sunday 5th February, you will transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your international flight back to the UK.

Friday 3rd February

Depart Johannesburg

Check out of your hotel and transfer to O.R. Tambo International Airport for your international flight back to the UK.
