16th January 2026
After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for Anuradhapura (4hrs) to explore Sri Lankaβs first capital and undoubtedly the grandest city of ancient times. Home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Anuradhapura offers a wealth of historical and archaeological treasures. Among the highlights is the Sri Maha Bodhi, a sacred Bo tree over 2,200 years old, grown from a sapling of the very tree under which Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenmentβmaking it the oldest historically documented tree in the world. You will also see the Brazen Palace (2nd century B.C.), where 1,600 stone columns are all that remain of a once-magnificent multi-storied residence for monks. Another landmark is the Ruwanweliseya Dagoba (2nd century B.C.), famed for its once-perfect bubble shape that modern restoration has struggled to replicate. The Samadhi Buddha statue (4th century A.D.) beautifully captures the Buddha in deep meditation, while the Isurumuniya Rock Temple (3rd century B.C.) is renowned for its carvings, including the famous depiction of βThe Lovers.β The Kuttam Pokuna, or twin ponds (6th century A.D.), served as bathing pools for Buddhist monks, and the Thuparama Dagoba (3rd century B.C.), the islandβs oldest, enshrines the sacred right collarbone of the Buddha. After completing the tour, you will transfer to Dambulla and the Jetwing Lake four-star property in a deluxe room. The rest of the evening is free for you to relax at leisure, followed by an overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 3: POLONNARUWA
17th January 2026
After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most impressive of Sri Lankaβs cave temples. Donated by King Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C., the temple complex consists of five caves adorned with more than 2,000 square meters of painted walls and ceilings, making it the largest collection of cave paintings in the world. Inside, you will find over 150 images of the Buddha, including a colossal 14-meter-long figure carved directly out of rock.
Following the visit, you will continue to Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka built during the 11th and 12th centuries A.D., also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, admire the remarkable Gal Viharaya with its four statues of the Buddha in upright, seated, and recumbent postures, and see the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, and the statue of King Parakramabahu. You will also encounter the Parakrama Samudraya, a vast reservoir built by the great king, and visit monuments of revered places of worship such as the Shiva Temple, Lankathilake, Watadage, Galpotha, Kiri Vehera, and the remains of the former Temple of the Tooth Relic. After the tour, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Rising 200 meters above the surrounding jungle, the βLion Rockβ served as the inner stronghold of a 70-hectare fortified city. At its base, you will find a moat, ramparts, and beautiful gardens, including the famous water gardens. Along the climb, you will visit the renowned frescoes of the βHeavenly Maidens,β painted in vibrant earth pigments on plaster, located in a sheltered pocket of the rock and accessed by a spiral stairway.
Afterwards, you will experience an authentic local village visit. Begin with a tractor ride through scenic village paths leading to a lake, then cross the lake by canoe. You will have the opportunity to take part in a cookery demonstration with local women and enjoy a delicious traditional lunch. Following lunch, a tuk-tuk ride through village paths will bring you back to your coach.
In the afternoon, you will embark on a safari at Minneriya National Park, famed for the Minneriya Tank built by King Parakramabahu during Polonnaruwaβs golden era. The park is world-renowned for βThe Gathering,β the largest congregation of Asian elephants, especially between June and September when up to 300 elephants can be seen along the shores of the tank. Watching herds interact, playful calves, and bull elephants competing is an unforgettable experience. In addition to elephants, the park is home to 23 other mammal species including deer, sambur, leopards, and sloth bears, as well as brilliantly colored lizards, Indian pythons, and mugger crocodiles. Bird lovers will be delighted by sightings of painted storks, pelicans, eagles, and endemics such as the Sri Lankan Jungle Fowl, Hanging Parrot, and Gray Hornbill.
